At Clausthal University of Technology, Institute of Organic Chemistry, we offer a

PhD position (m/f/d)

as part of a project of the DFG Priority Program SPP 2315 for a period of 3 years. The remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service (TV-L / E13, 50%). The aim of the project is to separate critical raw materials such as lithium from their gangue materials using new switchable organic collectors whose structures are based on the natural substance punicine. 

Your tasks:

  • synthesis and characterization of molecules switchable by pH and light as collectors for flotation
  • carrying out flotations under different conditions with various artificially produced or natural minerals to recycle critical raw materials
  • interdisciplinary collaboration with engineers, mineralogists, process technicians and colleagues from analytical chemistry
  • writing conference papers and presentations, seminars and publications
  • collaboration in the training of our students in chemistry

Your Profile:

  • you hold a diploma or master’s degree in chemistry, ideally with a background in organic chemistry
  • enthusiasm in scientific research
  • good communication skills in English
  • you enjoy working in a team
  • you are a self-motivated person and like to work independently in a structured manner

The salary complies with the labour contract for the public sector (TV-L) and includes an annual special payment at the year-end. In addition, we offer separate supplementary benefits as a company pension (VBL).
