The Numerical Mathematics group at Clausthal University of Technology is seeking to fill the position of

scient. Assistant/Postdoc (m/f/d)

(if the personal requirements are met E 13 TV-L)

for a period of 2 years (with the possibility of extension). The position offers the possibility of a habilitation at Clausthal University of Technology.

The Institute of Mathematics at Clausthal University of Technology is characterized by a strong application orientation in research and teaching. The research focus of the Numerical Mathematics group is on the numerics of ordinary and partial differential equations with a special focus on hyperbolic conservation laws.

Job description:

Your task is to participate in the teaching of the working group, to support doctoral students and to participate in current projects of the working group, whereby the exact design will be adapted to the interests and experience of the applicant. The focus is on the following fundamental questions:

  • Development and analysis of structure-preserving methodsfor flow simulations
  • Research on innovative finite element and grid-free methods and their applications
  • Construction of advanced methods for uncertainty quantification (UQ) in realistic and large-scale simulations
  • Use of scientific machine learning techniques to solve practice-oriented challenges

Your profile:

  • Successfully completed scientific university studies (Master, Diploma or equivalent) in mathematics, technomathematics, scientific computing, or a comparable field of study
  • Proof of completion of a relevant doctorate at the time of recruitment
  • In-depth knowledge of the numerics of partial differential equations
  • The ability to teach in German and/or English is required; willingness to acquire the missing language skills in each case
  • Good programming skills in at least one high-level programming language (e.g. Julia, Fortran, etc.)
  • Experience in the use of larger software packages
  • Teaching experience
  • In-depth knowledge of hyperbolic conservation laws is an advantage
  • In-depth knowledge of numerical analysis (error/stability analysis of processes) an advantage

Remuneration is based on the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states
(TV-L). The TV-L provides for an annual special payment at the end of the year. In addition, we offer a separate supplementary pension scheme in the form of a company pension (VBL).
