Research assistant (m/f/d)

At the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering at Clausthal University of Technology, a position is available at the earliest possible date within the framework of the “POWERHOUSE efzn” as a

Research assistant (m/f/d)

(if the personal requirements are met EG 13 TV-L)

initially full-time for a period of 3.25 years. The position offers the opportunity to pursue a PhD at Clausthal University of Technology. The position is generally suitable for part-time work.

The Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering (ICVT) develops catalysts and reactors for chemical processes. In the course of the energy transition and the defossilization of industrial production, so-called Power-to-X technologies are currently being further developed and brought to technical maturity in Germany and around the world. In this process, hydrogen is first produced by water electrolysis and then converted into various gaseous or liquid key products. These can be used either as a raw material in the chemical industry, as a fuel or as a transport vector for hydrogen. Of particular importance is the conversion to green ammonia, which can be used in a variety of applications and free of carbon emissions.

In the "POWERHOUSE efzn" project of the Energy Research Center of Lower Saxony (efzn), a joint research project as part of the Volkswagen Foundation's "zukunft.niedersachsen" program, a research training group of 16 doctoral students will investigate issues in the context of ammonia as a hydrogen derivative. In this sub-project, the Institute of Chemical and Electrochemical Process Engineering (ICVT) at Clausthal University of Technology is researching possible flexibilization approaches for the catalytic synthesis of ammonia using novel chemical reactors and extended operating strategies.

Your core tasks in the sub-project at ICVT will include:

  • Carrying out systematic steady-state and dynamic measurements to determine the dynamic reactor behavior on a laboratory reactor plant
  • Development and extension of mathematical models to describe the dynamic behavior of catalyst-reactor systems
  • Implementation and operation of novel fiber optic measurement techniques for recording reactor temperature fields
  • Development of strategies for optimal temperature and reactor control

Our desired profile includes:

  • Above-average Master's degree in chemical engineering, process engineering or comparable courses of study
  • Please note that the position is not suitable for applicants who already have a doctorate
  • Very good written and spoken English language skills, good German language skills are also desirable
  • In-depth background in the field of heterogeneous catalysis and chemical reaction engineering
  • Analytical, structured and independent way of working and strong ability to work in a team
  • Experience in working with software and programming (Python, MATLAB, gPROMS etc.) is desirable

We offer you:

  • Structured training as part of a graduate college
  • A family-friendly and collegial working environment in committed teams as well as interdisciplinary and varied areas of responsibility
  • A salary according to the collective agreement for the public service of the federal states (up to pay grade 13 TV-L), as well as a year-end bonus according to TV-L and a separate supplementary pension (VBL)
  • Family-friendly working conditions (e.g., flexible working hours, childcare options, part-time employment)
  • Occupational health management and offers from the university sports program
  • Future-oriented development and qualification opportunities
  • All the advantages of employment in the public sector

Clausthal University of Technology supports the compatibility of career and family through flexible working time models within the scope of official possibilities and is a member of the university association " Family in Higher Education".

Equal opportunities, diversity, and family-friendliness are important concerns of Clausthal University of Technology. People with disabilities will be given priority if they are equally qualified. A corresponding proof should be attached. Applications from people of all nationalities are welcome.
