Scholarships are awarded by private foundations. In contrast to BAföG, the approval of a scholarship is not dependent on personal need, but usually on student performance or social or political commitment. Money received via a scholarship does not usually have to be repaid. On the Studying in Lower Saxony page you will find an overview of all foundations that award study scholarships throughout Germany. It is also indicated there which requirements are linked to an application for a scholarship.
In addition to the general study scholarships, a number of companies also award scholarships that are linked to a specific course of study. Please refer to the page on company and foundation scholarships and ask the Student Advisory Service for more information.
Foreign students also have the opportunity to use the DAAD scholarship database.
